BlackBerry Applications - What Software Developers Need to Know

As the BlackBerry smartphone gains market share, software developers are increasingly wondering if they should be writing or porting applications to run on the BlackBerry platform. It's not a decision to be taken lightly because there are significant investments in time and effort in writing software for any mobile platform. And the BlackBerry platform is very different from the other platforms. Here's a quick rundown on what you need to know before creating BlackBerry applications.

BlackBerry software is written in Java. Java is the only choice for non-browser application development. You can't write applications in C or C++, so don't even bother going there. (The very earliest models of the BlackBerry supported C/C++, but the platform switched to Java exclusively several years ago.) The Java is Java ME. The BlackBerry's Java support is for Java ME (Micro Edition), the stripped-down version of Java designed for mobile phones and other constrained devices. The language is the same (most features are supported) but the class libraries are vastly different -- mostly because they're much smaller. This makes porting code a challenge. But it's also BlackBerry-specific. The Java ME class library is small, so the BlackBerry augments it with a number of device-specific APIs, including the graphical user interface APIs. You need to learn these APIs to write "real" BlackBerry applications. You need to test on real devices. This shouldn't be any surprise to anyone who's done mobile application development before, but it's even truer on the BlackBerry platform. The BlackBerry simulator can easily give you a false sense of security when testing your application features, especially the networking aspects. There's nothing like testing it on a real device. Preferably, several real devices. BlackBerry infrastructure is complex. BlackBerry programming isn't just about understanding Java and the BlackBerry APIs, it's also about understanding the entire BlackBerry infrastructure, from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) to the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) and everything in between.

The reality is that BlackBerry programming is a specialization that is developed over time. It's not nearly as simple as it seems at first, as many developers have discovered to their dismay.

How Compact Can Your Laptop Be?

A laptop should be as slim as it can get and there is no arguing that the smaller it is the smarter it gets! Of course the smaller it is the pricier it gets! Even as it gets slimmer it guarantees voluminous features by way of very high speed connectivity, sound card, video memory, SD memory card, memory stick, multimedia card ,wide screen display, fax compatibility, optical storage etc. A laptop can weigh as light as 1.3kilograms and still carry a modem with a speed transmission of 56Kbps and data link protocols like Ethernet.

Since laptops are more in demand than the multi functional desktops the manufacturers are finding ways to bring the laptops on par with desktops using the latest technology. The laptop with the advantage of accessibility, and portability is outweighing the merits of the traditional desktop. One reputed company has now released a new laptop whose sole purpose is for viewing movies and with the embedded speakers that can compete with the effect of the home theatres. The wireless internet network has now become is a boon for the users with its reach, reliability and easy configuration and you don't have the problem of disentangling the tangled wires!

These slim and handy 'notebook' as it is called these days, is the perfect companion for the 'travelling' businessmen who does not have to worry about accessibility in those remote areas where his work may take him. The people are now willing to spend more money to buy laptops for their multiple and attractive benefits. Now these computers with the new Lithium ion battery technology provide the user lower charging time and longer running time and this in turn has also eased the burden for the perpetual commuter.

A new technology that has been introduced is the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security chip that offers more security. Computers are getting to be more sleek and handsome to cater to the younger generation. These laptops with their high performance and good resolutions and high video quality are also grabbing the attention of the discerning user. One of the added features of the laptop PC is that the many USB ports it is provided with can even house the portable mouse. This promises the user more comfort if he finds the touch pad too constricting.

Thus if you are looking for the best laptop the only problem you are likely to face is the growing volatility of the notebook market which introduces newer and better featured models. These are very soon likely to out date the one you are planning to buy this very moment.

Comparing Asus Vs Other Mini NoteBooks

If you are interested in a small, cheap and durable computer then you will probably be very interested in Netbooks, which are also known as subnotebooks, and mini notebooks. First let's start by comparing a few of the most popular models:

Asus EEE PC: 7-10" Display, Linux/XP, 900MHz (Celeron/Atom), 2-80GB, 512MB - 2GB

HP Mini Note 2133: 8.9" Display, Linux/Vista, 1-1.6Ghz, 4-120GB, 512MB - 2GB

Cloud Book: 7" Display, gOS, 1.2Ghz, 30GB, 512MB

NoahPad: 7" Display, Linux, 1Ghz, 30GB, 512MB

People that are familiar with computers will already know about Asus, however if you know very little about a computer then you might not know who Asus is. This could be the major reason why the HP Mini Note computer is becoming so popular. Almost everybody will know who HP is; it's one of the most famous computer manufacturers in the world.

The HP Mini Note is a tiny computer which has an 8.9" screen, what's fantastic is that the keyboard is almost the same size as a normal keyboard which is a great achievement! These are available running Vista, or Linux. The HP 2133 is very competitively priced to compete against the EEE PC, and features a conventional hard drive rather than an SSD drive.

All of the major net books available feature Linux; however the HP and EEE PC also have windows options. On earlier EEE PC models it was possible to install XP yourself; newer models do include XP as standard. The HP 2133 computer is however a much more advanced computer which is capable of running Windows Vista.

If you're familiar with Linux then you will know that it's available in a number of different flavors, or distributions. The majority of these come with no support, however the operating system on the HP2133 is from Novell. The difference with this and other Linux operating systems is that they do offer support. Linux isn't always very easy to use, so the support will be very useful.

Make sure you check the specifications of the HP2133 sub notebook computer in your own country as the specs do seem to be varying in different countries. Be sure to check on the hp website and select your own country. This will make sure you know exactly what the computer will be like that you are purchasing.

Although there are many different netbook computers on offer, with many more being released on a regular basis the HP and ASUS are the most popular sub notebook computers on offer. I personally think that it's a tossup between these two computers. The two have slightly different specs, and the HP reportedly has a better build quality.

The newer ASUS models do have larger screens and better specifications; however the HP may still be your machine of choice.

Netbooks or subnotebook computers are a fantastic way to take your computer everywhere you go! They are almost as convenient as a PDA, but are fully featured computers.

Asus Laptops

From their humble beginnings in the computer hardware market, ASUS has always been one of the most respected brand names in their field. With a company vision that is constantly putting them at the forefront of new technology advances, many find that ASUS laptops are about as close as you can get to the pinnacle of laptop perfection.

ASUS laptops are designed with the end user in mind. Not just mass marketed, multipurpose machines, ASUS laptops are specifically engineered for whatever you need your machine to do. As is the case with most manufacturers, ASUS offers a broad range of laptops that range in specialty from business to gaming targeted laptops and include everything in-between. The real appeal though, is the way they marry technological harmony with visual bliss. All ASUS laptops are made with the most premium finishes and surfaces you can imagine. From wild colors to brushed stainless steel and even full grain leather, you will find yourself drooling over more than just the sheer processing power of ASUS laptops.

On the performance side of things, even the most demanding users will not be disappointed as ASUS continues to deliver what is certainly a legacy of quality. All ASUS laptops are equipped with name brand parts that you can depend on, as opposed to some budget laptop manufacturers that use lower quality parts in order to cut costs, leaving you with a lower performance machine.

Standing opposite to the high end machines, ASUS also has a strong hold in the compact portable department. ASUS second generation Eee PC line is a perfect match for users that are looking for fast boot times, low demand computing and light weight (under 2lbs) performance, for only $299. The Eee PC line is obviously no speed demon but if what you are looking for is something you can pull out of a purse or briefcase to keep connected with your digital life, this line is your perfect match.

One new offering that ASUS has made to the laptop industry is one of the first fully upgradable laptop computers, which they bill as a full desktop replacement. The C90 is a special line of laptop that offers all of the advantages of desktop power and functionality with the portability that laptop users demand. Though most manufacturers offer the ability to upgrade and replace key parts such as the hard drive and RAM; the C90 line sets itself apart by allowing the replacement of things such as the video card, wireless devices and even the CPU! The ASUS C90 also allows you to overclock your CPU, which eliminates one of the main reasons why most desktop warriors have not already gone mobile. The bare-bones model which is basically nothing more than a shell starts at $850 and can be comfortably equipped for around $1500. However, the beauty of this laptop is the fact that you can get your parts from wherever you want, making it possible to bargain hunt for everything you need.

Of course, all of this comes at a premium. As one would expect, there is a general 10 - 20 percent price difference from most other mid-range laptops on the market. Most, however, would agree that ASUS laptops are a comfortable step above middle ground, which for the more demanding computer users, will be exactly what they are looking for.

ASUS laptops offer these different series:

· LAMBORGHINI VX3 - Intel Core 2 Duo T9300, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, 12.1" Widescreen $3200

· F9Sg - Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 3GB RAM, 250GB HD, 12.1" Widescreen $1500

· S6Fm - Intel Core 2 Duo LV L7200, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, 11.1" Widescreen $2500

· U3S - Intel Core Duo T7500, 1.5GB RAM, 160GB HD, 13.3" Widescreen $1400

· F8P - Intel Core 2 Duo T5550, 3GB RAM, 250GB HD, 14" Widescreen $1100

· G2Sg - Intel Core 2 Duo T9300, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, 17" Widescreen $2000

· MV50Sv Intel Core 2 Duo T9300, 3GB RAM, 250GB HD, 15.4" Widescreen $1350

Buying a Cheap New Laptop

Buying a new laptop can be a tricky business, especially if you are not real savvy with all the technology jargon that manufacturers, and retailers, love to throw at you. Then there are also the costs to consider, as laptops are generally a fair bit more expensive than your average PC. Still, it is possible to bypass all the confusion and financial heartache and purchase a relatively cheap new laptop. However, you will need to consider a few important factors first.

The first step in buying a laptop is to know why you want one and what you want to use it for. Sounds simple I know, but you would be surprised at just how many people rush out and buy a brand-name laptop, simply because of some enticing commercial or because someone told them they should have one, only to later realise that they cannot afford it and do not really have any particular use for it. Or another scenario is when a person needs a laptop to use in their car, but they end up purchasing one that cannot absorb the vibrations of travelling. So, it is important to figure out whether you want a laptop to use just at home, for work or corporate purposes, or one that is portable and travels well.

Another factor to consider is whether upfront cost, or long term ownership, is more important to you. If you are in a position to do so, it may well be worth paying a bit extra if you want a laptop for long term usage, otherwise you might find you have to buy a newer model sooner than expected and it could end up costing you more in the long run.

If upgradeability is important to you and you do not really need the portability of a cheap new laptop, then perhaps a PC would be a better investment. This is also something to think about before buying.

A further point to consider before purchasing, is the extent of the life of the battery. If you intend to use your laptop, primarily when it is plugged into a wall socket, then this is not so important, but if you need a portable laptop to take on the road, or for study at school or college, then a laptop with a long sustaining battery is necessary.

An Accurate Cable Modem Speed Test is Your First Step Towards Faster Downloads

How many times have you sat there starring at your computer screen, twiddling your thumbs, just wishing you had even a little more speed? This particularly holds true for anyone that is still using a standard dial up server, which can be painfully slow. If you have found yourself wishing for more speed from time to time, then the good news is that it is now not so far out of reach.

Cable Modem Speed is Measured in Kilobits Per Second

A cable modem speed test is a test by which the speed that your computer operates on the Internet can be gauged. Internet speed is measured in kilobits-second and for most people this means how fast data files can be downloaded. However; the speed by which your system operates also has an effect on how fast data files are uploaded as well. Most people are only concerned with their download speed though, as this is what they find themselves doing most of the time that they are on their computer.

The Most Accurate Test Available

There are now online services that can not only test your computer services overall speed, but they can also assist you in implementing measures to increase your performance speed as well. The cable modem speed test is administered by the service sending your computer a data file of a measured size. This file is then downloaded by your computer end then uploaded back to the sender.

Achieve Maximum Speed Attainable

In this way, both your download speed and your upload speed are combined in to one figure that is your total result of the cable modem speed test. This is far better then testing only your download speed, which can be done by yourself by simply timing the speed of a file download with a stopwatch. Also, another benefit of using an online service is that they can automatically retest you as you are implements upgrades, until you have reached the maximum speed attainable.

Buy Cheap Bargain Laptop Computer - How to Get One on eBay

Here is a quick tutorial to buy a cheap bargain laptop computer on eBay. The first thing you need is to get internet access now. Assuming you are reading this, you have that access. All kidding aside, if you need to, you can get to your library, or even Kmart offers free access.

Go to the place you can get your internet access and sign up for a PayPal account. You can find them at paypal.com.

Next, you want to go to eBay. They can be found at eBay.com. Sign up for an account.

Once you have your eBay account, you want to search for laptop computers. You will no doubt be offered something like 12,000 offerings. And the offerings will be from all the major suppliers. You can buy new, used, refurbished, and even broken computers.

You don't want the broken computers, but there are still plenty of offerings. And you should be able to find something in the 200-300 dollar range.

Do not just buy the first laptop you see. Shop around. One of the things you may be tempted to do is buy quickly, but you should look at the items that have time left before the auction is over. Compare prices and features.

Decide what your budget is in relationship to what you want to do with it. If you are only looking to surf the web, and won't be running lots of programs, then you can find something in the $200-300 range. Check out to see if the computer is wifi capable. Now, it is usually a standard feature, and with all the great hot spots, you should be able to get free internet access when you are drinking our java.

Check out the seller feedback. If you are new to eBay, you need to make sure you buy from someone who has a good reputation.

When you find your computer, don't immediately put in a bid. Wait until the auction is almost over. Then you can bid. If you bid too early, you run up the auction price prematurely. Keep in mind, if you are looking at a great deal, you will need to watch closely when the time is near to end. Or, you can just use the buy now feature on many of the options.

Put in your bid, and soon enough, you will have your computer. Lastly, make sure you are aware of the shipping terms, and the credit terms. If you do not have paypal, or credit, you can usually buy with check or a wire. Just communicate with the seller.

So now you know how to get your cheap bargain laptop computer. Make sure you buy right.

Securing Wireless Networks - Small Business and Residential Setups

Today in the year 2008, In the United kingdom, broadband take up is increasing sharply and some anecdotal evidence can be garnered from the fact that there is virtually no marketing of dialup internet connection offer, substantively all internet service providers market only their broadband services. Generally, most ISPs provide wireless routers as standard for all fixed land line ADSL broadband connections. ISPs generally offer slightly different connection packages to small businesses and these packages do often include a free wireless touter. The primary use of wireless routers issued by the ISPs is internet connection sharing. Thus a single broadband connection in a household or office could be shared by several computers within the range of that router.

Setup for your router will usually offer the services of an automated setup procedure or wizard to take you through the setup procedure. If you obtained a package that doesn't include setup by trained technician, then you should opt for the wizard unless you and completely familiar with network setup procedures.

wep protection with hexadecimal key: These days, most routers are based on the wi fi standards and these routers come with wep encryption . Your setup wizard will give you the option of using wep encryption on most wifi routers. Accept this option and then invent a hexadecimal key as instructed by the wizard. In the UK, most routers support the 64 bit hexadecimal key. This requires you to make up a 10 digit number made up of alphabets and numbers , numbers being from 0 to 9. This key once input by you must be written down because you will need to input this key in every computer wishing to share that wireless internet access. The wep encryption is essentially password protection for your wireless network. As long as you don't divulge your wireless key to people who shouldn't have it, your wireless network will be solidly defended against casual intruders.

Without wep protection, without any other kind of wireless encryption, your wireless network would be as secure as a roadside cafe wireless hotspot, that is open to all computers equipped to use it.

DHCP: Most networks are configured using dhcp servers. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol(DHCP) server assigns network addresses to all computers using a network, and automates what would otherwise be a really complex part of network set up. Most wifi routers come pre configured to act as DHCP servers by default. The router wizard will guide you through set up and as long as you accept the default settings, your set up should go smoothly. When you set up the computers that will be used to access the internet via router, the client computers must be set up to obtain their network addresses from the router.

DHCP really simplifies the set up off networks of all sizes, however, it also makes it a lot easier for an uninvited interloper to join your wireless network, particularly where the wep encryption option has not been taken up. Essentially, any computer configured to accept wireless network connections automatically, might be able to join your network. This could , potentially, give the interloper full access to the computer files of every computer on your wireless network.

Manual IP Setup: Most routers can be configured to use manually assigned computer addresses or IP addresses. These fixed IPs are substantively harder to configure and are my preferred option for small wireless networks. This is not a viable option unless you do have considerable technical knowledge of network setup. The benefits include the fact that interlopers have to work quite a bit harder to break into such a network. Nevertheless , a fully secured network is probably an impossible setup to achieve.

Shared Folders: In a residential network, its unlikely that you will need to have shared folders, thus ensure that all shared folders are disconnected. In a work environment where shared folders are necessary, a structured permissions regime will be required to secure your files and folders. Unprotected shared folders can be accessed by unwanted network interlopers who have the skills to do so. The use of all the available means of folder protection would discourage all but the most determined interloper. A failure to observe simple security methods like this has been known to undermine the security of many networks, wired and wireless.

I addition to the fairly fundamental issues already addressed other things to bear in mind will include the need to power cycle your router occasionally. This means switching off the router for up to 5 minutes. If you find that you're unable to access the internet while the router is operational, a power cycle of your router will often resolve the problem, it not call your technical support team.

Wireless routers are based on radio signal technology, so just like with TV and radio, reception can be bad in places. Experiment with your wireless routers position till you achieve the best results possible. Your router will always install a signal strength indicator on your computer desktop.

In summary, wireless routers can be a great joy to to use, and in so far as you are aware of the pitfalls, they can be reasonably secure too. Enjoy.

Apple Notebooks

There is no standard computer that can hold a candle to the common Apple Notebooks. Recently Apple put out the new 13.3 MacBook with the white housing and 2.1 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo and 1 gigabyte over 120 gigabytes. It is one of the top picks in Apple computers today. Mac computers are built to last. The standard PC lasts for around 2 to 3 years. Most of your PC computers are virus prone and many technical problems develop with each use. The Apple Notebooks have proven to give the highest performance and you do not have virus attacks like you do with the standard PCs.

The average PC cannot outperform any Apple computers, and the notebooks are often more reliable. Mac's Intel based computers include the Mini selection, which gives you the best driver support and the system was upgraded to provide you with full specifics including the Intel Core Duo T2300 with 5300 DDR2 Memory. You have 120 Gigabytes combined with 5400 RPM and 8Megabytes of SATA Hard Drive space. You also have the 8X DVD and RW Burner for creating high quality movies and downloading music. The latest Apple Notebooks has the Intel GMA 950 Integrated Graphics and Airport Extreme 802.1 1b/g-Wireless and Bluetooth capabilities. PCs today offer you 4 Gigabytes of memory and 500 Gigs of hard drive space, which is a lot more than the typical Mac computer, yet the processor speed makes all the difference in the world. Standard computers have Window's Vista, which is one of the most updated Operating System, yet when the OS came out, it was full of bugs. Now, you have better options with the upgrades, but still, standard computers are prone to technical difficulties and virus attacks. It seems that standard computers are always apologizing for their mistakes, while Mac or the latest Apple Notebooks is like Timex, "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking." The average Mac or Apple Notebooks and computer will last 10-15- or even 20 years, which is a huge difference compared to the average PC. We see this in the new 13.3 inch MacBook computer, which gives you optimization all in one compact system. You get superb memory and storage space in addition to impactful media solutions.

When one considers the Apple Notebooks, we often must consider software, which is essentially plays a part in performance. Windows XP has the service pack 2, and is the latest Intel based Mac Operating System X Version 10.4.5, which was installed from Mac's instructions posted on their website. When it all comes down to it, Apple Notebooks has the most advanced technology in software solutions around? In addition, you get the best of all worlds with the latest SATA hard drives, which give you 250 Gigabytes of hard drive space to handle all of your storage needs.

All About Computer Cable Locks

A computer cable lock comes in the form of a cable, which is used to tie the laptop with an unmovable object.

For a large number of individuals who prefer to make use of notebooks for their personal use, it is definitely one of the most easy and user-friendly gadget available around. It is extremely portable and allows an individual to carry their work with them. However this feature of notebooks, which makes them extremely user-friendly also makes it vulnerable to thefts.

Notebooks can get stolen easily, as they can be easily slipped in by the thief when no one is around. This is the reason why a large number of people prefer to go for computer cable locks. A large number of laptops get stolen every year simply because of the fact that these laptops are not fitted with laptop locks. Contrary to the popular belief, a large number of laptops do not get stolen in transit. In fact, they are usually picked up by potential thieves at corporate locations and offices.

A number of companies, which deal in security solution, have now come up with computer cable locks allow the users to make their computers/laptops theft proof. These companies offer computer cable locks, which can be fitted in a notebook or computer, thus making it almost impossible for the thief to steal it. Most of the times, individuals are not afraid of losing their costly laptops, but tremble at the thought of losing the crucial data, which is stored in these laptops. This is the reason why almost every individual insists on having a computer cable lock fitted in these important gadgets.

A stolen laptop, which apparently was not fitted with computer cable locks is generally regarded as an important lost asset which if falls into the wrong hands, could lead to severe complications. It could also give rise to a situation of serious security breach. In order to avoid such situations, it is necessary for an individual to seek help from a company, which can provide them reliable security solutions.

Companies that deal in computer cable locks offer to provide an individual with popular self-adhesive and superglue enhanced computer cable locks which can be modified for different computer equipment and setups. Apart from acting as laptop locks, these computer cable locks can also be effectively used for protecting the monitor and VCR equipments in the house.

There is a large variety of computer cable locks available in the market today, which allows the user to join together a number of security plates together altogether to a single cable. The comport cable locks make use of straight-end cable lock assembly in order to provide total security solutions for an individual's laptop or other computer equipments.

Before going ahead to purchase computer cable locks, there are some pointers which need to be kept in mind, such as in case they are provided with a single lock, would the individual feel the need for separate locks for the laptop and the dock? Individuals would also require choosing between a key lock and a combination lock on their computer cable locks and deciding which one would suit their security needs the most.

First Computer - How Did You Get Started?

In 1982, I decided to become adept at Morse Code. I can't even remember why now. So I went to the local Heathkit Store (an old version of Radio Shack) in Berkeley, CA and invested in a Morse Code key kit. With a little soldering and wiring, I built a replica of a code key to tap out Morse Code.

While at the store I noticed a newfangled piece of equipment called a "Portable Computer". The following week I returned to the store to really check out this new piece of equipment. I was both excited and mystified by the box that was the size of an old Singer sewing machine, had a 5" built-in monitor (white on black) and two 32kb floppy drives and 64k of memory.

Oh yeah, it was portable - if you call lugging around 25 pounds portable.

Here was the ultimate in computer technology - THE OSBORNE COMPUTER - with it's CPM operating system, 5 1/4 floppy drives(2), tiny monitor, tilt out keyboard and with an attached handle for carrying if you were strong enough. And it came bundled with ALL the software you could ever want or need:

WORDSTAR - Word processing software with Mail/Merge

SUPERCALC - Spreadsheet that could do math

DB - The ultimate Database

And all of the above software came with their corresponding 500 page manuals. WOW - what else could anyone need? Oh yeah, price in 1982 was a mere $1800 and believeme, that's a lot of monthly payments.

Check this out - Start operating system(CPM) in A: drive - use B: drive for data

Swap out CPM floppy for Program in A: drive - switch B: floppy for data

ETC, ETC, ETC...

After a month or so of exploring and reading the Osborne Magazine "The Portable Companion", I bought and upgraded the floppy drives from 32kb to 64kb each and even bought a modem to chat online with other Osbornites.

Anyway, to wrap this up for now - I took the "portable" computer to work and entered the Companies customer list so we could sort by name, address, zip, etc and set up the first mailing list available on computer. The Company was so impressed they spent $650 for a dot matrix printer so they could do mailing labels.

It was definitely a miracle device for the times.

This was not entered on the Osborne Portable Computer - although I still have it on the worktable and it still functions as designed.

Reconditioned Apple Mac Laptops - Why You Should Consider Buying a Reconditioned Apple Mac Laptop

Reconditioned Apple Mac Laptops are laptop computers that have been purchased by someone and used from anywhere between 1 and 3 months, depending on the store. The customer then returns the laptop computer to the store that they bought it from for any number of reasons. At this point, the store can no longer sell the laptop as new. They must now return the laptop to Apple's manufacturer. The laptop must now be "refurbished" or "reconditioned". What this means is that they will make the laptop bright and fresh again, or renovate it, so that it can be sold.

Reconditioned Apple Mac Laptops are not new computers, but they run and operate just like one because they are only a few months old. These reconditioned laptops will have fast processing speeds, mega system memory, the newest operating systems, and the newest technology.

Big name companies such as IBM, Dell, HP and others recondition notebook computers, but they don't put forth a lot of energy into selling them. Instead they focus on the newest and latest technology computers. They also spend a lot of money doing it. That's a large part as to why new laptops cost more than refurbished.

When you buy a Reconditioned Apple Mac Laptop, you know that you are paying for a laptop with the newest technology at a price that is probably way off retail value. When laptops are refurbished by Apple Mac professionals, you know that you are getting one of the best mobile computers in the world. Mobile Communication - Empowering an Era of Intelligence

The use of workforce mobility and wireless communication can help organizations move ahead in the new economy. Security has been touted as a key concern when it comes to mobilizing the enterprise. WLANs are already being deployed in many organizations, some limited to parts of the network, others to the entire network. The proliferation of Wi-Fi networks is increasing in many third world countries where organizations have installed Wi-Fi equipment to have their employees connected.

However, enterprise mobility goes beyond Wi-Fi. It is estimated that 30-40 percent of corporate information like e-mail and databases are found in mobile devices such as smart phones and not necessarily laptops. The mobile subscription by business and corporate users across the region is growing. As with any new technology or solution, it is important to match the users' requirements with the benefits and limitations of the solution.

Is Mobility Right?

It is believed there are various areas to look into before deciding if mobility is right for your organization and how to best implement it to optimize returns. The first one being infrastructure, that is to have a stock check on what or who needs mobility and where.

The next one being quality management, which includes trials, documentation of processes, reports on usage, to identify problems, benefits to measure against expectations and goals for further improvements and modifications.

This is followed by security. It is important to have multi-layered security checks, especially in case of remote access and guest log-ins. The organization also needs to have adequate and well-measured standards for future proofing and scalability. With various solutions available in the marketplace today, it is important to know which standard works best for which application, users, and locations.

Equally crucial are applications and support. Organizations need to see how anytime, anywhere mobility can be properly executed.

There are a lot of multi-mode, multi-standards, multi-technologies riding on client devices, applications, networks. It is therefore important to have a sort of technology monitoring to be able to give a transparent handover to the users. Generally, business users expect immediate contact with others when the need arises. Hence, the strong desire for anytime, anywhere communications.

The survey also showed that across the region, the largest number of respondents cited that business meeting was the most important thing they have missed for not being able to call or e-mail sometimes, followed by a customer query. In addition, missing an important contract or new business was also cited by a good proportion of the respondents.

So far, the most common applications being deployed over mobile infrastructure is mobile e-mail. Mobile e-mail, therefore, no surprise has the highest penetration among all applications. Today Mobile Email has become an integral part of business. The access to corporate emails on mobile phone greatly helps businesses' to improve communication as well as productivity level of their organization.

The primary function of mobile email solution is to facilitate the user to send, receive, compose, delete and view attachments via a mobile device. However various email solutions differ in the way they do so, which in turn depends upon the underlying mail servers, the ease with which they can be deployed in an organization, the cost factor and the mobile services with which they will work effectively.

Today some organizations have come up with such cost effective email solutions have been specifically designed for those organizations who would like to provide its employees with the facility of accessing their corporate/official emails on the mobile but do not want to invest in purchasing high end mobile phones like PDAs and smart Phones or in paying monthly subscription charges and giving their server access to a third party.

"Traditionally, some of the industries are already deploying these applications given the impracticality of wired infrastructure. However, the difference now is the move towards standards-based technologies and solutions".

The best way to judge whether companies walk the talk, is the amount they have budgeted or plan to spend on mobile solutions. Secondly it is important to ensure that these same functionalities and resources are made available to mobile workers, while they are on the road or telecommuting.

The Original Tool For "Anytime, Anywhere" Learning

The laptop computer is probably the first modern technological tool that has been touted as a tool that can be used by people to learn "anytime, anywhere." If the person who desires to learn from anywhere and at anytime he or she chooses to do so, needs to consult or use resources available on the Internet, then "anytime" becomes limited to those times (servers do go down now and then) when, and to those locations where Internet connectivity is available. As of today, there are many more people who do not have access to the Internet than those who do have such access. I am sure that the same is true for geographic locations in the world - there are probably many more places in the world from which people cannot access the Internet than places from which people can access it. I am confident that this situation will change over the next decade or two as more and more countries invest their scarce resources to develop their digital communications infrastructures.

A few years ago, hand-held electronic devices performed specialized functions. For example, an electronic organizer helped people keep their personal and professional information organized. A cell phone allowed people to make and receive calls. A digital camcorder enabled someone to shoot video footage of those precious occasions that one wishes to cherish over a period to time, such as birthdays, weddings, etc.

The capabilities and functions of various hand-held devices have converged over the years and now we can use a single device to shoot digital video footage and edit them, surf the Web, store and retrieve personal and professional records and information, and communicate verbally and in writing. As these hand-held devices become more popular and powerful, they will slowly but surely subsume all the functions of the currently much larger computer laptops as well. These devices are being considered as having the potential to meet the needs of those who wish to learn "on the go."

Long before these newer and more sophisticated devices entered the marketplace there were audiotapes, videotapes and CD-Roms. Learners could listen to class lectures while they were commuting in buses, cars, or other forms of transportation. They could also view videotapes that taught them content in various disciplines, at different locations since there used to be a large installed base of VCRs in many parts of the developed world. In spite of all the sophisticated circuitry that must surely go into making these devices function the way that they do, they will cease to function when the juice in the batteries which power them runs out. Yes, these devices can be plugged into electric outlets and powered up, but such tethering of the devices limits the mobility of the users.

However, my still favorite tool for learning on my own terms does not require any Internet connectivity. I do not have to pay any monthly service charges. There is no need to log into some system or the other as well. I do not need any cables or batteries to use this tool. I do not even need any source of power other than the light of the Sun or the glow that emanates from light bulbs that are available all over the world and even in most remote parts of developing countries, to be able to learn anywhere or anytime with this somewhat ancient product of technology. But I can take one or more versions of this tool anywhere and anytime and I often do take a few with me when I travel. I call this "anytime, anywhere" learning tool the "book."

What Are the Benefits of Remote Access and Hosted Desktop IT Systems?

Remote access is fast being a necessity for many businesses and organisations both large and small.

With the ever increasing availability of high-speed Internet access you can have your software applications hosted remotely, which allows staff and global offices access to shared applications with simplicity and without the need for IT technicians or support and specific computer knowledge.

There are many business essential software applications that can be delivered remotely and some of the more common ones are Sage Accounts, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat and almost all Windows compatible applications.

Other benefits of a Terminal Services or Citrix remote access system are:

o Secure E-Mail - plug in Blackberry devices and smart phones to receive secure Microsoft exchange e-mail, and have secure wireless synchronisation for your communications.

o Disaster Recovery - never lose any data or worry about fire and theft, as all data and files are housed in secure data centres. All connections to your remote desktop are encrypted both upwards and downwards, to ensure your communications are safe from hackers.

o Work from Anywhere - take your hosted desktop anywhere in the world and, using any PC or laptop, you can work seamlessly, taking your desktop where you go.

o Remote CRM Hosting - using the power of applications such as Microsoft's CRM and Goldmine, you can increase customer retention and sales and have remote salesforces working efficiently and effectively wherever they are in the world.

Remote IT systems are much more common nowadays, due to the stability and reliability of the Internet, which delivers the remote desktop or remote access service and is a key factor in the performance of your system. In terms of cost, any company, whether they have 1 user or 1000 users will find that the cost is actually much lower than a traditional system, and also delivers disaster recovery benefits that are crucial to most businesses.

Some of the major cost-saving issues are:

o The fact that your business will never need to purchase Microsoft Office suite software as it usually comes included within the remote IT system packages.

o As your IT system is delivered remotely in secure data centres, your IT infrastructure, hardware and support costs are greatly reduced or become a thing of the past as it is up to the remote hosting company to ensure you can access your system, data and files to guaranteed service levels.

One of the only factors to consider is that you have to actually require internet access to access your data and files. However, this can be solved by using synchronization software that will allow you to have the files locally on your laptop or PC, as well as on the remote servers, although this does defeat one of the main objectives with these systems, which is to keep your data and files secure in the event of equipment theft or hackers.

Whether it is reaching the planets out in space or going down through the earth into the sea, many things would not have been possible or as easy as it is today without the help of computers. In that respect, if this mechanical device can be used in each and every sphere, then who would not want one? For that reason the invention and the innovations of the laptop is not only a must, but a demand. Since the day it was invented, the innovations of the laptop have been continuing. Every day there is something new in the design, technique and in the handling of the laptop.

When the laptop was first invented, it was thought that this would be the last form of the computer which everyone would be happy with. But it was not something with which man would limit their satisfaction. In fact, the latest innovations of the laptop keep coming. In this context we can name the palmtop, touch pad computers. These are just like their name, very small in size but equally effective in their response and functions.

Now we are finding people irrespective of age, curious and eager to buy and use laptops rather than buying a desktop computer. People like to move freely with all their data and files intact and safe in their hands, rather than keeping these locked in a desktop PC. The innovations of the laptop have made all these things very easy and enjoyable. The impact of the latest innovations of the laptop has allowed man to sit freely in open air, chat with each other through the internet and bring the office or class work out into the garden or parks.

As the number of laptop and their types are increasing, the cost seems to be decreasing. Everyone can carry a laptop in their arms without much concern regarding its price. In fact, laptops are being manufactured with a motive to attract all classes of people. After all, when setting out to make an item popular and a best seller, enabling it to be sold at an affordable price is an important factor. When a person doesn't have to worry about whether or not they can afford an item, they are free to investigate the features and facilities of the product.

The laptops are in no sense less than the desktop PCs, as these are credited with everything a man can need. Each and every external device is compiled very beautifully into this small version of the computer.
